Wake up, Alabama: Two Mobile coffee houses win Golden Bean awards
Mobile really is starting to look like a place where you can get a premium cup of Joe: Two different coffee houses have combined to take three awards at this year’s North American Golden Bean Awards.
Organizers of the Compak Golden Bean Awards describe it as “the world’s largest coffee roasters competition and conference.” Founded in Australia more than 10 years ago, it opened a North American version in 2015. That year, Serda’s claimed a bronze medal in the emersion filter category for its limited-edition Ethiopian Tchembe.
At this year’s competition in Portland, Ore., Serda’s earned a bronze medal in the “pour-over filter” category for its Ethiopian Nekisse N2. Mobile-based Carpe Diem Coffee & Tea Co. also won a bronze in the same category for its Ethiopian Natural Process Indido.
Better yet, Serda’s claimed a silver medal in the “milk-based” category for its Royal Street Espresso.
